This is the story of Bread Story Malaysia. The malls in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia are spectacular. I’m not usually in favor of spending time inside malls on the other side of the world, but humidity tends to change my mind for the better. One of our favorite malls in KLCC (Kuala Lumpur City Centre) is called Sunway Velocity Mall.
In North America, food courts are hallways of take-out food service. But the term, ‘food court’ doesn’t feel like an appropriate representation of the beautifully designed dining areas within Malaysian malls like Sunway Velocity. They’re bright, beautifully welcoming and full of unique furniture that sparks creativity and joy.
While walking past the take-out restaurants at Sunway Velocity Mall, we across a Bread Story shop. It’s a delicately decorated bakery with delicious sweet and savory pastries baked on-site.
From afar, you can smell pastry baking, sharing their glorious scent with shoppers. As you approach the shop, you become enchanted by an elegant display of French café-style décor: cookies in tall glass jars, beautifully packaged cookies in coloured cellophane with ribbon.

Then you see the pastries. You eyes gaze at an overwhelming selection of familiar treats like BBQ pork buns and hand pies. But then you begin to stare at the fun, unique creations. Fun treats that caught Amit’s eye include the Spiderman bun, Spicy Chicken and Al Amigo.
First of all, no, I don’t know why it’s appealing to stuff the face of a cartoon character into your mouth. But yes, it was absolutely a pastry we discussed and needed to try! The Spicy Chicken bun looked delicious, and it was worth the carbs! Al Amigo was a fascinating creation because it was such a confusing confection. Located in the heart of Kuala Lumpur within a bakery decorated with French design, we found an inciting Mexican-inspired pastry. Yes, this was cause for the purchase.
No regrets. Our Bread Story experience was absolutely delightful. Check out our video to hear Amit’s remarks about the experience.
